7 Prayers For When Anxiety Strikes

Praying through Scripture is a powerful way to find peace and reassurance during anxious moments. Here are seven ways to do so using the NIV (New International Version):

1. Pray for Peace

Scripture: Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Prayer: “Lord, I bring my anxieties to You. I ask for Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, to guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus.”

2. Pray for Strength

Scripture: Isaiah 41:10
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Prayer: “God, I feel weak and overwhelmed. Please strengthen me and uphold me with Your righteous right hand. Remind me that You are always with me.”

3. Pray for Trust

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Prayer: “Father, help me to trust You with all my heart. When I don’t understand, guide me and make my paths straight as I submit to Your will.”

4. Pray for God’s Presence

Scripture: Psalm 23:4
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

Prayer: “Lord, even in my darkest moments, I know You are with me. Let Your presence comfort and guide me, dispelling all fear.”

5. Pray for Courage

Scripture: Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Prayer: “God, give me the strength and courage to face my fears. Remind me that You are with me wherever I go, and I have no reason to be afraid.”

6. Pray for Rest

Scripture: Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Prayer: “Jesus, I come to You with my burdens. I ask for Your rest. Teach me to lean on You, for Your yoke is easy, and Your burden is light.”

7. Pray for Hope

Scripture: Romans 15:13
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Prayer: “God of hope, fill me with Your joy and peace as I trust in You. Let Your Holy Spirit overflow in me, so I may abound in hope even in anxious times.”
These prayers are a way to anchor yourself in God’s Word, helping you to focus on His promises rather than on your anxiety.
